Firefly's stardom was due to the fact that she was a part of Whedon's subsequent TV series, Firefly. Summer Glau's character, River Tam, was one of the most complex characters that Glau was able to handle with ease. Tam has to take part in experiments conducted by the government that will help her become the most powerful assassin. The ability of Tam to regulate her emotions was taken away from her. Glau was able to display her combat skills as well her acting abilities on Firefly. Glau could fully utilize her athletic talent because she was training to become an assassin. Summer Glau is a classically trained ballerina. A broken toe was the final straw for her as an actress. Firefly was on only for the duration of one episode, but had a large fanbase. Whedon returned to the show many years later. Summer Glau kept on getting some good work. Her work included TV shows Cold Case and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
